Preparing the ground for Important Marine Turtle Areas (IMTAs): Advancing the IMTA Framework through connectivity science and regional collaboration
To serve as a launching point for regional coordination towards a formal Important Marine Turtle Area (IMTA) workshop by introducing participants to the IMTA Framework, assessment process and criteria through interactive sessions, breakout discussions, worked examples and case studies. The session will build a shared understanding of the Important Marine Turtle Areas (IMTA) framework and its role in identifying, recognising and conserving priority marine turtle habitats. Participants will learn how to apply IMTA assessment and nomination criteria, including data and evidence requirements, governance processes, cultural significance and local knowledge. The session will also strengthen regional collaboration and identify knowledge gaps, priorities and preparatory actions for a future formal IMTA workshop.
